How old are you?
I am currently 28.

Where do you live?
I am from the Gold Coast in Australia. We have the best beaches in the world!

What do you do for a living?
I am a nail tech! I am trained in Childcare and did that for 8 years but have recently decided to explore my love of nails further and have just finished my Cert II In Nail Technology. I am currently in the process of starting my own business.

What is your favourite top coat?
Glisten & Glow HK Girl Fast Drying + Super Shiny Top Coat is my favourite for nail art. It doesn’t smudge nail polish like most top coats do. I also use Seche Vite for swatches or solid colours as even though it streaks polish, that’s not a big problem on solid colour nails. It does have a tendency to shrink badly though so unless it’s a day only mani, I usually reach for the HK Girl instead.

Do you use a base coat?
Not really. Sometimes if I need something to smooth out my ridges I will use one, but I don’t have a favourite.

How do you get your manicures so clean?
I use an angled brush I got from eBay, and some nail polish remover to remove any mess. I dip the brush in the polish remover and use it to clean up any polish that I got on my cuticle or skin.

What kind of nail polish remover do you use?
I have a 1L bottle that I buy from my nail wholesaler for $10. It’s acetone free and lasts months, even when doing my nails every day. I have a smaller bottle that I pour it into so I don’t have to tip a huge bottle everyday.

How do I get nice smooth cuticles?
Hand cream and cuticle oil/lotions! They are a MUST! For a hand cream I prefer Vaseline Healthy Hands Nail Strengthening Hand Lotion because it doesn’t feel oily on my hands. I use Burt’s Bees Cuticle Cream everyday and when my cuticles need lots of attention I use Lush Lemony Flutter for extreme moisture. I push them back after my shower when they’re soft and ONLY cut them when they are flaking or a hangnail is starting. You can see my Nailcare Routine here.

How do you shape your nails?
I use a high grit file to flatten the free edge since I prefer a square nail. I only file the edges if I have a break starting and only ever file in one direction.

What’s your favourite polish?
OPI is my ultimate favourite. I love their formula and brush size. I also like China Glaze, L.A. Girl, Essie, Picture Polish, Rimmel, INLP, Ulta3 & Bliss Polish.

What kind of camera do you use?
I just use my Samsung s3 to take photos and videos currently. I need to invest in a better camera soon. Especially for videos.

What kind of lighting do you use?
When I record videos I just have an Ikea lamp above my hand. It’s the Tertial Work Lamp and I have a normal daylight bulb in it. When I take photos, however, I have a very basic light box that I have put together with two $15 lamps from Target, both with daylight bulbs, and a OTT lite above the box. The OTT light is more expensive but SO worth it in my opinion. It is far superior to the other two. I use a frosted plastic storage box propped up on a box and with a piece of paper to take my photos. I actually bought a real fabric tent from eBay for my photos but it sits unused and I prefer my plastic box.

Where do you get your swatch sticks?
I buy them on eBay from a buyer named zysysy2012. The store link is here.

Are your nails natural?
Sure are!

  1. Where do you buy the tape strips you use? Thanks.

  2. Can you put up a list of the items that you use when doing your nails in different styles

What do you use. For the skin around the nails before you polish, and then peel it off?
