OPI Soft Shades 2015 Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys!

Today I have the OPI Soft Shades 2015 Collection to review for you guys. The collection consists of 2 sheer cremes, 2 glitters, 1 shimmer creme and a frost polish. OPI also released a mini kit and TWO extra kits including some limited edition shades. So exciting!

Normally, I’m not the biggest fan of sheer polishes but the colours in this collection are so beautiful and buildable that I can’t help but swoon over them!

Let's get to the swatches.

Act Your Beige! is a sheer creamy pale pink beige. Even though it is sheer, it builds to be opaque quite easily and is one of my favourites from this collection. I needed to apply 4 thin coats to make it opaque, however making them thin made them dry very quick and evenly so it didn’t streak. I’m sure three thicker coats may work too but I’m not sure about how streaky or patchy that would make the end result. Obviously they’re meant to be worn semi sheer and they self-level incredibly well so my first two coats weren’t patchy at all. I used 4 coats with no topcoat for the photo below.

Chiffon My Mind is a shimmer white with a subtle pink and blue shimmer through it. The shimmer really takes it from being a ‘plain white polish’ to something really beautiful and different. The shimmer was a lot more noticeable in person that it came out in the photos and in person it reminded me of the shimmery pearl white that some cars are painted in. SO beautiful. I used three thin coats with no topcoat for the photo below.

Make Light Of The Situation is an iridescent glitter and shimmer topper in a sheer pearly base. I layered one coat over Act Your Beige as it’s a topper polish but I think it would be buildable to an opaque polish on its own quite easily. I also think this will look amazing over a dark colour to make the shimmer really come to life. I used 1 coat over Act Your Beige with no topcoat for the photo below.

Petal Soft is a glitter topper in a clear base. There are three sizes of hex glitters in pale pink and white and also med-large flower glitters. You need to really fish the flowers out because they weigh more than the hex glitter and slide right down the neck of the bottle quickly. Luckily there are a lot of them in the bottle so it doesn’t take too much time to find one. My first thought when I saw this polish was “Not a glitter topper!!” because you guys know how I feel about them… But when I put it on my nail I actually loved it. Crazy right? I just fell in love with the hex glitters and their colours and it was all so overly girly to me that I was obsessed. But being a glitter topper, of course I had to have an issue with this. My issue is that the flower glitter is so thick that they sit very flat on my curved nails. It looks so bulky and even after I added a top coat it wouldn’t smooth out and look even. I would have had to add three coats of top coat to get the glitter looking flat. Making the flowers thinner would mean they form onto my nail better and would look so much prettier. For the photo below I used one thick coat (and blobbed on the fished out flowers) over Put It In Neutral and top coat.

Put It In Neutral is a sheer warm pink. This is my other favourite in the collection. Sheer or opaque, both of the sheer cremes are just the prettiest colours and really compliment my skin tone. I can see both of them being some of my favourite palette cleaner polishes when I need a break from bold and bright polishes. I found this so easy to apply and it self-levelled really well so it was nice and even and no patches were obvious to me when it was sheer. I found it reached total opacity in 4 thin coats with no visible nail line. I am a sucker for pale pink polishes and this compliments my skin tone so beautifully that it will be a new favourite for sure. I used 4 coats with no topcoat for the photo below.

This Silver’s Mine! is a rose tinted silver frost. Yes, it leaves noticeable brush strokes that no top coat will smooth or cover but it’s such a beautiful silver with the slight pink that it’s been on my nails for the last day and a half. That’s a week in nailie time!! I can’t stop looking at them and have had two different girls ask what shade it was. It’s like no other silver I own with its rose pink undertones and I can easily forgive the brush strokes for that. I used 2 coats for the photo below.

Overall I love this collection. The glitter topper which would usually sit unused will definitely be used on my nails (I’ll just remove the bulky flowers). My two favourites are definitely Act Your Beige! and Put It In Neutral which is surprising to me because while I love creme polishes, I usually dislike sheer polish. Usually they look either too streaky when they’re sheer or not opaque enough, like you haven’t added enough coats to them, when opaque. But these two are so even and buildable that they are exactly what I’ll be reaching for when I am in a conservative mood. I’d also imagine this collection being very popular with brides and people who love a french tip look too.

OPI Soft Shades will be available in Australia from April 2015 in selected MYER, David Jones and selected salons nationally for $19.95 each.

OPI have also released three kits in this range. The standard mini kit but also two other slightly different, but totally awesome kits.

The Mini 4-Pack including Act Your Beige!, Put It In Neutral, This Silver’s Mine! and Make Light Of The Situation is also available for $24.95.

The Look of Crystal Kit includes Chiffon My Mind, Black Onyx and This Silver’s Mine! in full size, and real Swarovski crystals to apply to your nails. Perfect for creating shimmering graphic looks. It’s available for $39.95.

Finally, The Nude Pink & White Kit has two full-sized, limited-edition matte shades in I Couldn’t Bare Less! and Love Is In The Bare. They dry matte with no top coat! This kit is available for $27.95.

What do you think of this collection? What polish is your favourite and do any of the kits catch your attention? I think I need to find The Nude Pink & White Kit ASAP because this girl loves some matte finish.

Happy Monday dolls!
