My Bag Inspired Nails

Heya people!

I was at the shops and I saw this bag:

I loved it. I bought it. I knew straight away I had to put it on my nails.

So I did THIS!

I LOOOOOVE IT. I want to keep it on for a week. That won't happen because it always chips because I am a nail tapper but still.. Love it!

The colours are so striking against each other! I used my Striping Tape Routine to get such crisp lines (never fails!!) and studs from eBay which I painted black.

The polishes I used were:

L.A. Girl 'Peacock'
OPI 'Alpine Snow'
Essie 'Licorice'

It's even Lewis (aka Groob, Grooberson, Groobus or Grub) approved for chewing!
(but really, he chews anything as long as it's on me.. I am his walking talking chew toy)

Hope you like them as much as I do! Mint, black & white for the win!!

Strawberry Nails

Hey guys,

Strawberries have been super cheap here at the moment so I have been binging on them like crazy. Half way through my second bunch the other day I realised I had never put strawberries on my nails! And that I was starting to feel sick from eating so many strawberries. So decided I would do a super cute mani with teeny tiny strawberries on my nails!

I started off with a blue gingham as the background that was based off a picnic blanket idea. I used China Glaze 'White On White' and OPI 'Can't Find My Czechbook' for the base and light blue lines and then acrylic paint for the darker blue so I can make them really square :)

I loved them so much I had to take a photo before I added the strawberries on top. They are so country chic.

I even took a photo of them and my view. I added it to the 'mynailsandview' hashtag on twitter :)

Then I added the strawberries. And I loved it even more!

Strawberries are made from Australis 'Hip Hip Hooray' and Sinful Colors 'Pistache' & 'Exotic Green'. I mattified the whole thing with Essie 'Matte About You'.

Funnily enough @majikbeenz put up a gingham and cherry mani that was super similar to these up on Instagram as I was halfway through mine, so I'm calling these 'random unplanned bestie twin nails!

Polishes used:

China Glaze 'White On White'
OPI 'Can't Find My Czechbook'
Australis 'Hip Hip Hooray'
Sinful Colors 'Pistache'
Sinful Colors 'Exotic Green'

A summertime mani in the middle of the Australian winter.. Sounds perfect to me!

My Striping Tape Routine

Hi guys,

I post a lot of mani's using nail art tape and always get a lot of comments about how I get my lines so crisp. I honestly don't think I do that much different to most people, maybe I was just lucky with the tape that I got being great quality, but I doubt it since it's just from eBay and most people get their tape from there. Maybe it's my technique after I add the top colour. I have never experimented to see.

I'm not saying this technique is perfect every time, nor that it will work perfectly for you. Below I have written up my routine and how I get the great and clean results that I do.

Shine Bright Like A Diamond Mani..

Hey all,

I wanted to do a really simple and easy mani to go back to nail school with that I was easily able to do on both hands. I'm studying to be a nail tech and have had about 6 weeks off due to my guy getting sick and having to go to hospital, then myself being sick twice. It's not been a good time!

Anyway this is what I have come up with.

Left hand

 Right hand

Yes, I am fully aware that my nails are different shapes and lengths. I am loving the oval shape at the moment and how long I can grow them with them staying stronger, but I just can't commit to them on my left hand yet. Nail art on square nails is just so much more popular and looks a lot more 'even'.

Here's both hands. My right hand looked a little bit less perfect but I think for detail work using my left hand, I smashed it!!

I used Essie 'Licorice' and China Glaze 'White On White' with a thin nail art brush for the diamond. Super quick and easy!

I'd love to do this again on silver polish with black polish for the diamond. Think it'll look amaze!

The Perfect Mani That Seche Vite Ruined...

Hi dolls,

Okay, so I don't want to keep banging on about how much Seche Vite's top coat can suck it, but look at this beautiful mani.. Look at it!!

Now, imagine looking down at these bad boys 3 hours after finishing, them and seeing this:

Please excuse the terrible lighting and quality of this photo. I was too enraged to go to my light box from the couch.

RAAAAAAAH!! I cannot wait until my Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat arrives.. But seriously! RAH!

Anyway, luckily I took photos as soon as the ‘Matte About You’ mattified. And take photos I did..

This is one of my favourite mani’s I’ve ever done. It’s like tiny little book's pages all covered in tiny little flowers, on my nails. And I even managed to line all the stamping up across all my nails. I have no idea how that happened!! Total fluke.

Nails without the flowers added on. Look how those lines line up!

I used OPI 'My Vampire Is Buff' (aka the best nude shade ever for my skin tone) as a base with a pattern from the MoYou London Pro Collection 04 stamped over the top using OPI 'Get In The Expresso Lane'. Then I added the roses with acrylic paint and topped the whole thing with Essie 'Matte About You'. I Seche'd after I stamped to dry it. Boo. Skipping that step next time.

Will be redoing this mani when my G&G top coat arrives. And then I will be able to rock it for more than an afternoon.

I can't wait!!

Rainbow Nails Take 2!! (And Seche Vite's failures as a topcoat for me..)

Hi everyone!

So obviously I wasn't ready to remove my rainbow dot mani but due to the crappiness of Seche Vite's top coat, I had to.

I made a post on how unhappy I was with Seche on Instagram but I'm going to go into a little more detail here now.

Now I know that a lot of people love Seche and have no problems with it at all. And I didn't either, until about 3 months ago. And since then it's just been HORRIBLE! Maybe my huge refill bottle was a bad batch or something, but it's just been so frustrating!!

I always clean up my polish if I have to before I Seche my mani because I read that Seche shrinkage is less likely if it is in contact with the nail the whole way around the cuticle. I ALWAYS wrap my free edge which is usually the main answer to my most common problem.

Now, before you say it, I know you can get Seche Restore to help thin your Seche Vite when it starts to go claggy. And I have it. And use it. And because I use it so much I probably need to buy another one. But that annoys me even more!!!! Seche can't make a top coat that stays thin and consistent and then CHARGES YOU MONEY to buy another product to FIX THEIR DEFECTIVE TOP COAT!!!!!!!

NOT good enough.

My mani is usually fine for the first 6-8 hours with Seche. No shrinkage. And then 12-24 hours later.... BAM!!! It's all pulled up from the edges!! Mani ruined!! I had just added restore before doing the mani above and it still happened. I wrapped my edge and it still happened.

All I can think of is that my super hot showers are making the Seche react the next day?? And I have always taken almost scalding showers and if 35c summer heat can't stop me from taking them then a top coat won't either!! The polish is dry, so why would a shower make it shrink all of a sudden??

What I find the most annoying is that my mani is fine for the first half a day/day and then the next day it's ruined and I have to deal with the epic shrinking from my edge and sides/cuticle of my nails. If I don't take a photo right away, forget about it. It's ugly.

I will be swapping to Glisten And Glow HK Girl Top Coat as soon as I can afford it as I have heard nothing but GLOWING reviews for that top coat and I cannot wait. The possibility of being able to wear a mani for more than two days without it being ruined and chipping off is so exciting!!

Anyway... onto the new nails!

So this is kinda the flow and wave of dots I was going for with my rainbow dotticure but I got dotting tool happy and ended up covering my entire nails with them! So I thought I would try again, on black, and with a mixed colour wave!

I used pretty much the same colours as my last dot mani (I took a few of the darker colours out to make it brighter) but the trick is to add a dot of white first and then go over it with the colour. On a few of the smaller orange dots, I went over the white edge and you can really see the colour difference. It just looks so dull and muted without the white to make it pop!

I think it turned out swell. Why don't people say swell anymore? It's a fantastic word!!! Anyway... DOTS!! What do you think?? Which do you prefer?

Rainbow Nails!! YAY!!

So.. I did this mani on my nails last night before bed, and although I looove it and can't stop looking at my nails, the original plan was a wave of dots across the middle of each nail with white left at the top and bottom.

ARGH! Look at that unpolished thumb nail! This was right after the dotting was finished and top coat was on. Photo time before I smudge and ruin them!!

Then I proceeded to picked up my dotting tools and obviously lost my mind and went dot crazy. I cannot be trusted!!

I used OPI 'Alpine Snow' for the base and then added the following colours from left to right.

Ulta3 - Honolulu
Natio - Sunflower
Australis - Hip Hip Hooray (my favorite red! Great colour and no stain on cleanup!!)
L.A. Girl Color Pop - Snapped
OPI - Pink Flamenco
Picture Polish - Candy
Picture Polish - Wisteria
Sinful Colors - Endless Blue
Sally Hansen - Blue Me Away!
L.A. Girl Disco Brites Blacklight - Can U Dig It?
Ulta3 - Jelly

And of course, because I couldn't stop looking at them and when my stupid Seche Vite started pulling them up off the edges the NEXT DAY (grrrrrr Seche Shrinkage.. GRRRRR!!) I had to take a selfie (aka nailie) to always remember their badassness. Plus I was having a KICKASS eyeborw day that needed to be documented. Girls, you know how it is.

I didn't want to remove these bad boys.

Rainbow dot nails, we will be reunited again!

Blue and Silver Leopard Print Nails

Hi guys :)

So I had been doing a lot of pink and girly nails on my Instagram lately so I wanted to use some darker polish. I planned to do a dark red mani with silver, but when I bought this Sally Hansen 'Blue Me Away!' I knew I had to use it asap.

Dark, non-girly nails are officially on hold.....

I wanted to do a leopard print feature nail.. So I did one and a half. Because why not?? I also added a texture nail of OPI 'Solitaire' because I'm texture nail obsessed, and then some studs I got from eBay. The base colour of the leopard print is Essie 'No Place Like Chrome', the light blue is Sally Hansen 'Blue Me Away!' and the dark blue is OPI 'Road House Blues' and I think they all work really well together without overpowering each other.

What do you think? Are you a leopard print fan or, like me, are you obsessed with texture/liquid sand effect feature nails?

My Very First Galaxy..

Hey guys!

I have been avoiding doing this type of nail art for SO long because it just looked SO scary and overwhelming. But I am so happy with how simple it was and how incredible and eye catching the final result is.

I mean, look at that!!! How beautiful is it. And somehow I created a nebula on my index finger. I mean, totally meant to do that!!

I wish I had taken photos to do a tutorial but I honestly didn't have that much faith in my ability to do something this badass on the first try so I will have to do more in the future and possibly do a video or photo tute :)

I started with a base of black. I obviously used my go to black OPI 'Black Onyx' for one coat. It doesn't have to be perfect. It doesn't even have to be opaque! It's just to add some darkness to the background.

I then added a thin coat of L.A. Girl 3D Effects 'Black Illusion' which is a black polish with a scattered holographic shimmer through it. SO pretty and perfect for the back ground of a galaxy.

I got a makeup sponge and ripped it into smaller pieces (about 1cm x 1cm) and then using sheer jelly style polishes (I used Australis 'Sky's The Limit' and '#makethemagic') and the corner of one piece of sponge randomly sponge the colour over the nails. Then using white, highlight some areas of the colour you just put down and then go over it with the coloured polish again to get both dark and light colour streaks of galaxy. In some areas that were a little too bright I put more black on a sponge and, after pressing off the excess, went over the too bright areas to add some black and dull it down.

Then with a white polish and a nail art brush I drew in the stars and added a few dots, randomly wiped on some small silver glitter polish in areas and topped it with top coat.

I am SO happy with the result. Hope you love it too!

Pink Friday by OPI with a floral accent

Hi all!

A quick update on my nails of the day!

So, @followthatway on Instagram has been posting the most amazing vintage-y floral patterns on her nails lately and when I was thinking about what I could do for my mani all I could think about were her roses!!

So I did a rose 'polka dot' style pattern as an accent, and even though it looked better in my head, it's still rockin'!! She is the QUEEN of pretty floral manis.

The pink is three coats of OPI 'Pink Friday' and the floral accent is a base of OPI 'Alpine Snow' with acrylic paint used to draw in the flowers. It dries faster, it doesn't smudge with top coat and is so easy to blend and use. I just used cheap brushes from eBay that had been trimmed to my liking.

It's winter here in Australia, but that doesn't mean I can't have spring on my nails!!

Go follow @followthatway on Instagram. You won't be short of inspiration!!

Vintage Flower Looking Mani and Property Theft

Hi all!

Before I share with you my floral mani, I need to vent a little. So buckle up and prepare for the rage.

Recently I had an account take my photos and erase my watermark and add theirs on top, taking credit for my hard work and creativity. I was absolutely outraged. It was lucky I was sitting in a hospital waiting for my partner to get a blood test because otherwise I could have broken something.

The issue has been semi-resolved now, with the photos they used to sell things from their store using MY images, removed, however their account still remains active, and since they have blocked me I can no longer see if they are still stealing my work. But then yesterday I randomly came across someone on instagram with my mani on their fingers and NO credit given to me. The mani was my concept and my creativity and yet this person (who isn't a newbie and has a healthy amount of followers) straight up copied my idea onto their nails and then was commenting like it came from her head to people's praise??

In my opinion these two people are the same kinds of pathetic. Using someones work and ideas to sell products or simply gain followers is just wrong. It's not hard to say 'This was inspired by .....' because chances are, that person's watermark is sitting above the nails you're copying. If it was an unmarked image on Google.. whatever, that's a little harder.. but copying someones work and then pretending it was your idea? If you can't credit other people's work you deserve to be hit by a bus driven by karma.

Aaaaaanyway... In lighter news..

I did a vintage floral mani today that I saw back in March and knew I needed to do them. So I did. They are inspired by the talented @_lovely_nails_ on instagram and I straight up copied her fantastical mani because changing it would ruin it! Go follow her because she is amazing :)

Isn't it preeeeeetty??

Let me know in the comments your opinions on nail art thieves and how to deal with them.. I think public lashings in the square is an acceptable punishment....

It's My BIRTHDAY!!! So I Painted My Nails Twice......

Hey guys,

So, today is my birthday! I have hit 28 and the big three-oh is on the horizon.. Eeeeek!!

I just wanted to post a quick one to show you guys my birthday nails!

I did two.. These first ones were a dry run and I didn't end up keeping them on because to me, they didn't scream 'birthday'.

Not to say I didn't love them.. because I did. But since I was wearing mostly black I wanted my nails to be a little more toned down!

So I did these:

And it was love. I used my brand new black sparkley polish my guy bought me for my birthday (isn't he the BEST?!?!?!), Nicole by OPI 'A-nise Treat' and OPI 'Hey Baby', then stamped over one of the patterns from MoYou London's Pro Collection Plate 04 with Konad black polish, added some black diamonties for a little something extra and was so happy with the result.

Which do you prefer?

4th Of July Nails

So I have some super awesome news, but first, I wanted to share with you my 4th of July nails.

I've always loved July the 4th, even being Australian, because it's the closest holiday to my birthday (July the 6th) and I just think it's America's way of celebrating that it's almost my birthday with fireworks ;)

Anyway, I saw this idea on Pinterest for a Valentine's day mani with hearts and dots and decided to recreate it with stars and stripes for July 4th! I love how it turned out.

I used China Glaze ' White On White' and Australis 'Hip Hop Hooray' for the striped base which I made with just regualr old striping tape and then hand cut out the stars from regular tape with my art knife and placed them on before covering it with OPI ' OPI... Eurso Euro' and removing the stars. Then I mattified the whole thing with Essie's 'Matte About You' :)

I LOOOOOVE this so much and I will totally be stealing the heart and dots idea for Valentine's Day next year!!

Annnnnd my big news....

I hit 10,000 followers on Instagram!!! 10,000!!!!!! That is HUGE for me because when I started I didn't think I would hit 2,000. Thank you so much for following my insta and my blog. So much love.

Pink Holographic Stamped Nails

Hi guys,

Another detailed post on a recent instagram mani!

I recently received a whole lotta L.A. Girl polish and as soon as I swatched the 3D Effects polish in 'Dazzling Pink' I knew I had to use it on my nails ASAP.

I used one of the MoYou London Princess Collection plates to stamp some roses over it using Konad Black and just loved how girly it ended up looking. I seriously need more MoYou plates because they are just spectacular quality and the designs kick ass.
